6 Reasons You Should Train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

1. Improve Your Physical & Mental Health

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a physically and mentally demanding martial art. You do not have to be in shape to begin the sport but you will be in better shape as you continue to train. We have beginner and advance classes to not only challenge you but also help you develop at your own pace. At the end of a class, even if you have had a rough day, we see our students with a smile on their face and happy they got to train.

3. Improve Your Patience

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a strategic martial art. You need to wait and assess when the best time to make an escape or when to bait your opponent to gain the upper hand. You are always being challenged by your opponent weather you are on the offence or on defense. Timing is key and as you develop your skillset your patience naturally grows.

5. Build Humility

You regularly experience failure when sparring in BJJ. Especially when you are first starting out. There is a saying, "Just pass the first six months and things will become better". These losses are necessary and crucial for your learning journey. Still, the act of submitting and losing means that your ego necessarily takes a healthy hit every time you go to training. however, your persistence teaches you the more valuable lesson. Never to give up.

2. Join a Community

When you start learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you’ll be introduced not only to our gym community, but also the wider thriving international BJJ community. This exists not only in the real world but also online as BJJ is growing rapidly around the world. Furthermore, in a class setting you are always interacting with people. We train with partners so that we can practice the moves with one another in a safe environment.

4. Develop Your Ability to Deal with Pressure

When starting to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you are constantly put into unfavourable positions where your first reaction might be to panic. Relaxing under pressure allows you to better conserve your energy and plan your next move.  This added focus allows you to take the same learnings and apply them to the real world and better deal with other pressures.

6. Have Fun

As adults we don't get to play around like we used to as kids.. But when you think about this sport it brings you closer to your more youthful days. You roll around on the mats and for those minutes or hours you are on the mat, you forget your adulting responsibilities and problems. You get to laugh with friends and exercise while developing your skills as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner.
